Faculty of Agriculture was founded in 1947 in Tsuruoka city, located in the center of Shonai plain which is well known as an area of tasty and abundant rice production in the north-east part of Japan.
At first, our faculty started as Yamagata Prefectural College of Agriculture and Forestry and developed in 1949 as the Faculty of Agriculture at National Yamagata University which incorporated five institutions of higher learning in Yamagata prefecture. The organization and its contents developed year by year and now the faculty consists of three departments; Bioproduction, Bioresource Engineering and Bioenvironment. Graduate School of Agricultural Science (Master course and Doctoral course) have also been established. Library, university farm, university forest and many other facilities are equipped.
We would like to contribute to the establishment of sustainable agriculture and harmony with the environment not only local but also worldwide. We are promoting the international exchange of students from abroad. We are also engaged in international collaborative researches with universities and institutions.
