This United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences was established as an organization for research and education by three graduate schools of agriculture at Iwate, Hirosaki, Yamagata Universities and a graduate school of veterinary medicine at Obihiro University. All of these universities are located in the northern part of Japan and are conducting unique research and education activities.
The aim of this school is to advance high-technological and interdisciplinary research and education on Bioproduction, Bioresources and Bioenvironment. We are trying to contribute toward progress of agricultural industries and communities as well as agricultural sciences by bringing up excellent researchers and engineers with specialized knowledge and ability.
We are readily welcoming foreign students who are rapidly increasing in number in recent Japan.

Science of Bioproduction

In this department research and education are focused on physiology, ecology and evaluation of genetic resources of a wide range of lives including agricultural organisms. It also covers the areas of production techniques, social-economics and farm management with regard to agricultural activities.
This Department consists of three Major Chairs Plant Production, Animal Production, and Agricultural and Forestry Economics.

Science of Bioresources

In this department, theoretical and applied research and education are conducted for the purpose of utilizing a wide range of organic activities in various levels, for example, cell, organ, individual and population. Effective usages of these organic activities are the main object of the study in this department.
This Department consists of three Major Chairs Bioprocess Engineering, Bioresources Technology and Bioresources Chemistry.

Science of Biotic Environment

Theoretical and applied studies and also related education will be conducted on biotic environment regional resources engineering as well as conservation and control of environment. This Department consists of three Major Chairs Biotic Environment, Regional Resources Engineering, and Conservation and Control of Environment.
