Research Overview
The Smart Forest Laboratory focuses on the centimeter-level digitalization of forests using UAVs, remote sensing, and AI-based analysis. We aim to integrate detailed tree-level data with large-scale forest monitoring to better understand forest dynamics, health, and management. Our research sites are located across the Prefectures of Yamagata, Miyagi, and Iwate — covering both natural and plantation forests under various environmental conditions.
Mountain plantation forest – UAV canopy modeling.
Coastal ecosystem monitoring under wind stress.
Experimental site for UAV and multispectral studies.
Post-tsunami forest recovery monitoring.
High-altitude forest under snow and frost.
