Eligibility

The faculty of Agriculture YU is open to both Japanese and foreign students seeking degree or non- degree programs. Eligibility to enroll in these programs varies in each category.

Undergraduate

Admission to the undergraduate programs requires applicants to have passed the Examination for Japanese University Admission (EJU) for subjects specified by the faculty. All international applicants must meet the language requirements (at least a lower advanced level of Japanese: JLPT N2). The EJU for international students is held twice a year (in June and November) and prospective students can obtain the forms from the entrance examination section of the faculty (contact).

Graduate

The graduate school comprises of Master and Doctoral programs designed to train highly specialized persons, from Japan and overseas countries. Students attain the practical ability to engage in creative projects and are able to cope with multidimensional aspects and the high level of specialty in agricultural sciences with comprehensive judgment and a sense of balance. The courses are open to persons/people wishes to increase their expertise in order to respond to diversified and complex societal needs for developing and deepening research in each specialty and interdisciplinary field.

Master’s Degree Program

The Master course accepts a total of 38 students under three majors: Bioproduction Science, Bioresource Science and Bioenvironmental Science. Application qualifications, procedure and period are usually provided in the admission guidelines booklet updated yearly.

Doctoral Degree Program

The Doctoral program has nine specialties in Bioproduction Science, Bioresources Science and Regional Environment Creation majors.

Admission to the Doctoral program follows the same steps as the master’s degree program.

• Confirm course requirement
• Important dates (Application submission, Examination, payments, etc.)
• All necessary documents and scholarships (application forms, visa, etc.)

Step 3: Submit the application documents

Step 4: Take the examination and wait for the results notification

• Successful applicants will receive enrollment details with results notification

Financial Support

The university provides financial support through scholarships and fees exemptions. Make inquiries at the admission office about the form of financial support available.

Scholarships

Scholarship opportunities are available for both prospective and enrolled international students.

1. Japanese Government Scholarships (Mombukagakusho:MEXT) for both degree and non-degree seeking students. Details can be accessed through the Japan Student Services Organization website. (https://www.jasso.go.jp/en/study_j/sgtj.html)
2. YU DO Best Scholarship which is available for students enrolled in regular course who are selected by the university on academic excellence and good personality basis.
3. MEXT Honors Scholarship for privately financed international students.
4. Scholarships by private foundations are also available for international students. You can find the scholarships which were called last year in the following list (Link). The requirement and recruitments procedures vary from one to another. You can make inquiries at the admissions office.

Important notice

• This list is based on the calls for application in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Some scholarships may not call for application in the next time.
• These scholarships require recommendation from Yamagata University. You must apply through GAKUMU (Academic and Student Support).
• For a scholarship, which does not require the university recommendation, students can apply directly.
